This is a very debatable issue now-a-days. Different research reports have different thoughts regarding it. But no doubt, it’s an important measure which should be taken by us to prevent the spread of Corona Virus transmission. However, we should keep in mind that the possibility to reduce the spread of virus by mask is limited.
Mask is very much important for the persons who are caring the COVID patients. Doctors, nurses, police or the people who are in essential services must wear a mask because they go directly in contact with unknown people. It is effective where we can not maintain social distancing. Using mask reduce the chance to spread the virus if we are going to an unknown or COVID positive person.
We should also be careful about the type of mask we need to use. Normal people who need not to go near unknown person can use normal masks. But those who are in essential services must use N-95 mask or other prescribed mask for their protection.
When a person sneezes then the droplets spread in the air and if another one goes near it then there is high risk of getting affected from it. So, mask is very much important there. A COVID patient must wear mask so that others can be protected from it.
Following are the guidelines issued by WHO for using mask :-
- Before putting on a mask, clean hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
- Cover mouth and nose with mask and make sure there are no gaps between your face and the mask.
- Avoid touching the mask while using it; if you do, clean your hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
- Replace the mask with a new one as soon as it is damp and do not re-use single-use masks.
